Our client, a leading agricultural and food production enterprise in the Middle East and North Africa, is seeking a General Manager of Dairy Farming for its flagship Algeria dairy project. The company is known for its scale, ambition, and commitment to high standards in animal welfare, milk quality, and operational efficiency.
Opportunity:
This is a senior leadership role focused on the strategic management and operational delivery of one of the region’s largest dairy farming ventures. The General Manager of Dairy Farming will be responsible for running the entire operation, with an initial target herd of approximately 30,000 cows. The successful candidate will also be tasked with recruiting, training, and leading a new management team to deliver best-in-class milk production while maintaining strict standards of animal health and welfare.
Responsibilities:
- Provide overall leadership and direction for the dairy farming operation, ensuring production targets, animal welfare standards, and cost controls are consistently met.
- Develop and implement comprehensive herd health, reproduction, nutrition, and genetic improvement programs.
- Recruit, train, and manage the complete operational team needed for large-scale dairy production.
- Oversee daily farm operations including milking, feeding, health checks, breeding programs, and biosecurity protocols.
- Collaborate with feed and cropping teams to secure reliable, high-quality forage supply and ensure sustainable resource use.
- Set and manage operational budgets, cost forecasts, and production targets aligned with business goals.
- Establish clear KPIs for milk yield, animal welfare, staff performance, and operational efficiency.
- Ensure strict compliance with local regulations, veterinary standards, and international best practices.
- Lead strategic planning for future growth, infrastructure expansion, and technology adoption.
- Foster a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement across all levels of the team.
- Report regularly to senior management with clear updates on performance, challenges, and opportunities.
Remuneration:

Skills
Candidate Requirements:
- Degree in Agriculture, Animal Science, Veterinary Medicine, or a related field.
- Minimum 6 years’ proven experience managing large-scale dairy farms (20,000+ cows preferred), or 10+ years in progressively senior dairy roles.
- Strong practical knowledge of herd health, nutrition, reproduction management (including AI and embryo transfer), and animal welfare.
- Demonstrated ability to lead and motivate large, diverse operational teams (100+ staff).
- Proven experience in budgeting, cost management, and operational planning.
- Comfortable working in large-scale, intensive production environments with high-performance expectations.
- Culturally aware and able to work effectively in an international context.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and leadership skills.
- Fluent English essential; French or Arabic would be an advantage.
- Valid driving license.
