North West Nuclear Medicine for Animals is seeking a compassionate and motivated Veterinary Technician to join our specialized team. We are a referral-based practice dedicated to treating hyperthyroid cats using Radioiodine (I-131) therapy.

Schedule:
Tuesday to Friday, 8:30 AM – 5:00 PM
(No weekends, no on-call)This position is a maternity coverage role, expected to last approximately 12 to 18 months, with the possibility of transitioning into a permanent, full-time position. Our clinic is actively growing, and we anticipate ongoing opportunities as our services expand.

About the Role

Our technicians play a vital role in patient care while receiving strong support from our veterinarians. This position is ideal for a technician who values independence, precision, and meaningful client interaction. The role is unique in that it does not rely heavily on traditional general practice skills such as routine appointments, blood work, radiographs, or surgical assisting. Instead, the focus is on specialized monitoring, husbandry, radiation safety, and long-term patient care.

Key Responsibilities:

● Provide daily feeding and husbandry care for hospitalized feline patients

● Monitor patient health, behavior, and overall well-being throughout treatment

● Monitor radiation levels in patients and clinic areas in accordance with safety protocols

● Maintain accurate and detailed medical records

● Deliver clear, compassionate client communication, education, and ongoing support

Ideal Candidate:

● Registered Veterinary Technician (VTNE or equivalent)

● Confident in feline handling, including fractious or challenging cats

● Experienced with hospitalized patient care and monitoring

● Detail-oriented, self-directed, and reliable

● Excellent communication skills with a compassionate bedside manner

● Interest in specialty or nuclear medicine preferred (training provided)
