The Restoration Field Supervisor (RFS) oversees all aspects of field work in support of coral restoration carried out by the Virgin Islands Coral Program. This position serves as the principle contact and supervisor for matters related to restoration efforts in the field, communicates closely with the aquaculture team and project managers, and supports the Coral Program Manager in planning restoration activities each season. The RFS supports the Virgin Islands Coral Program Manager and team in defining conservation priorities and long-term conservation strategies of the program, builds strategic, scientific, and technical capacity in the field and develops key partnerships to identify coral restoration solutions and best practices. The RFS works with project managers to ensure field operations stay on track to carry out project tasks and deliverables on time and within scope. The RFS is also responsible for staff supervision, contract and budget management, and may be tasked with supporting applications for various funding. Some responsibilities include:

Leading and managing team to support and improve conservation efforts.
Applying for, managing, and renewing permits required for coral restoration work.
Collecting and analyzing biological data and authoring or contributing to scientific reports.
Managing multi-disciplinary professional staff, with responsibility for performance management, training and career development. Establishing clear directions and set stretch objectives.
Establishing and maintaining optimal standards of performance for the team while controlling costs and administering budgets.
Supporting role in fundraising to meet program needs.
Building cooperation from outside parties to accomplish program goals,
May work in variable weather conditions, at remote locations, on difficult and hazardous terrain and under physically demanding circumstances.
Performing fieldwork on SCUBA or snorkel as a leader and member of the TNC dive team including coral nursery work, reef monitoring and donor and staff excursions.
Frequently making independent decisions based on analysis, experience, and context.

What You’ll Bring:

BA/BS degree and 5 years’ experience in conservation practice or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Experience managing complex or multiple projects, including staffing, workloads, and finances under deadlines.
Supervisory experience, including motivating, leading, setting objectives and managing performance.
Experience in building partnerships with academic, research, and/or government agencies
Experience with scientific diving in the marine environment.
Working knowledge of coral restoration practices and challenges.
Experience with statistical analysis and scientific writing.

Desired Qualifications

AAUS Scientific Diver or have reciprocity from an equivalent program
Multi-lingual and multi-cultural or cross-cultural experience appreciated.
5-7 years’ experience in coral conservation or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Knowledge of methods and standards of biodiversity information systems and initiatives or related field.
Experience in fundraising or grant writing.
GIS experience.
Communicating clearly via written, spoken, and graphical means in English and other relevant languages.
Politically savvy.

Salary Information:

This is a term-limited position, with an anticipated end-date June 30, 2028. Depending on funding, there may be the possibility of an extension.
The starting pay range for a candidate selected for this position is generally within the range of USD $74,000 - $80,000 for annual base salary. Where a successful candidate’s actual pay will fall within this range will be based on a variety of factors, including qualifications, specific skills, and experience.
Only applicants who are currently eligible to work in the United States will be considered. Unfortunately, The Nature Conservancy is unable to provide support for a work permit for this position.
Position requires a valid driver’s license and maintaining a good driving record.
