The EHS Technician will support Kalamazoo GMS Environment, Health & Safety (EHS) through field work, equipment inspection and testing, data and records maintenance, and proactively working with site personnel to improve EHS compliance and performance.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES
·Maintain documentation supporting compliance programs (PIV, LOTO, Safe Work, JHA, etc.)
·Monitor and investigate work areas, practices, and processes to identify and control potentially hazardous conditions, materials, and behaviors.
·Provide field support for routine environmental monitoring.
·Respond to incidents (e.g. injuries, near misses, spills) to assess the situation, secure the area, and initiate the investigation process.
·Perform safety and environmental inspections as needed.
·Calibrate and otherwise maintain EHS monitoring equipment.
·Indentify hazards and suggest safety improvements.
·Activily participates and performs in EHS audits, Kaizens, committee meetings, and training.
·Conduct routine testing and inspection of fire and life safety equipment.
·Provide field support for industrial hygiene assessments.
·Efficient preparation of documentation and data for EHS team and site meetings.
·Successfully complete training necessary to perform job assignments.
TECHNICAL SKILLS REQUIREMENTS
·Proficient with Microsoft Office, Outlook,Excel, and internet research skills. SAP experience a plus.
·Proven track record of identifying opportunities and the ability to recommend and implement improvements.
·Strong interpersonal, teamwork and problem-solving skills.
·Motivated, self-starter with excellent verbal and written communication skills.
·Able to provide solutions to routine problems.
·Excellent critical thinking, problem solving and decision making skills.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
·High school diploma, general education degree (GED), and/or associate degree (preferably in EHS or Engineering).
·3 – 5 years’ experience in a manufacturing environment.
·Proficient with Microsoft Office, Outlook, and internet research skills. SAP experience a plus.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
·Climbing, walking on uneven surfaces, working on a ladder, manual dexterity, and lifting within EHS guidelines may be necessary.
·Able to use various sorts of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) e.g., respiratory protection and hearing protection.
·Candidates cannot be allergic to beta-lactam antibiotics (e.g., cephalosporins or penicillin).

While performing the duties of this job, the colleague is regularly exposed to both office settings and a manufacturing environment, including moving mechanical parts. The work conditions for this position are 70% stationary and 30% standing and walking throughout the workday. The colleague will be required to utilize certain Personal Protective Equipment, including but not limited to, hard hats, safety (“steel-toed”) shoes, eye protection, gloves, and protective clothing.
