As a
Farm Manager at our
Howe, Indiana location you will be managing the daily operations and success of an irrigated potato crop. You will be directing farming operations, leading a team and working alongside direct reports while also evaluating process improvement and ensuring quality and safety. In this hands-on role you will be leading the field teams during planting, growing, and harvesting. During the off-season you will be preparing for the upcoming season, as well as working on equipment. Your team will consist of local employees and H2A employees during the growing season.

This position does have peak hours during plant and harvest including long hours and weekends but sticks to a 40-45 hour work week during the winter months.
Potato farming experience is valuable but not required; we are willing to train the right individual who brings farming and operations management.
This position is for you if you: - Bring experience in farm management experience or held positions with transferrable skills such as construction management
- Have a minimum of high school diploma; ideally a bachelor's degree
- Proven ability to lead a team and problem-solve
Key Responsibilities: - Oversee daily operations of assigned acres focused primarily on the russet/table stock varieties of potatoes
- Oversee planting, growing, harvesting and shipping of russet variety
- Make repairs and perform maintenance on farm equipment and facilities
- Maintain russet chip quality standards per customer requirements
- Coordinate plant health and season planning activities with internal agronomy team
- Maintain irrigation and ensure appropriate water and fertigation levels; ensure all pivots are operating under full capacity
- Ensure designated team members are trained on the operation and maintenance of all equipment. Assign maintenance and operation of shared equipment.
- Coordinate staffing with other locations when necessary
- Maintain crash maps
- Prepare equipment for upcoming season; clean equipment after season, document repairs and coordinate repairs
- Complete weekly time report
- Ensure GAP (Good Agricultural Practices) and food safety requirements are followed
- Review and update pivot operational instructions
- Update operations dashboard on a daily basis to document completed tasks and update due dates for current and new tasks
- Coordinate with suppliers and buyers to purchase necessary supplies
