Welcome to Walker Farms! We are hiring a Farm Equipment Operator to join our team in Hemlock, MI (about 15 miles west of Saginaw). In this role you will be operating a variety of farm and heavy equipment including tractors, excavators, skid steers, and backhoes for agriculture and drainage operations.
We are a third-generation family-operated farm that has been in business for over 50 years. We specialize in agricultural drainage and operate a 2,000-acre cash crop farm that raises corn, soybeans, edible beans, and wheat. Known for our high-quality work and integrity, we take great pride in both our agricultural and drainage operations. We offer competitive compensation of $20 - $25 per hour based on experience and health insurance benefits.
What you will be doing:
- Operate a variety of farm machinery and heavy equipment, including tractors, excavators, skid steers, and backhoes for agricultural and drainage operations.
- Perform physical labor, including the use of shovels to make farm drain tile connections and other manual tasks as required.
- Assist with daily operations on the farm, including planting, cultivating, and harvesting crops, as well as maintaining equipment.
- Follow instructions from supervisors and management, ensuring tasks are completed safely and efficiently.
- Work outside in all weather conditions for extended periods of time.
- Willingness to work long hours as needed, particularly during peak seasons.
This job is for you if you have:
- Previous experience with farm equipment such as skid steers, backhoes, excavators, and tractors is a plus but not required. Training will be provided for the right candidate.
- Able to follow instructions and take constructive feedback.
- Valid driver’s license, clean background check, and the ability to pass a random drug test.
- CDL is helpful but not required.
- Self-motivated and level-headed individual with a strong work ethic.
- Willingness to learn new skills and take on new responsibilities as needed.
