Responsibilities / Duties:
The System Administrator will use their extensive knowledge and skills to maintain and enhance the server and workstation infrastructure at VPP and our partner hospitals. The System Administrator will be joining a dedicated IT team of 10 IT professionals. You will be working on a mix of new projects and the general administration of different systems and technologies for our corporate staff and 180, and growing, veterinary hospitals located across the country. Most of the work will be done via remote access, but some travel is required.
This position requires a high degree of organization, prioritization, professional communication and attention to detail. The individual must have the ability to resolve problems or issues by using judgment that is consistent with company standards, practices, policies, procedures, as well as industry accepted best practices.
Core responsibilities include:
- Design and implement servers and workstations across our enterprise
- Provides support with escalated help desk requests
- Proactively manage and maintain servers, workstations, and IT systems
- Provide technical support on a variety of Windows operating systems
- Develop and implement project plans, risk assessments and contingency plans
- Install and configure computer and server equipment
- Provide IT system support to end users
- Define and document best practices and support procedures
- Provide after-hours support for occasional weekend maintenance.
- Implement and manage disaster recovery and back-up plans and systems
- Anti-Virus Platform Management
- Maintain inventory and asset configuration documentation
- Carry out special tasks at Management's direction
- Interact with staff at the technical level, as required
- Participate in an "On-Call" Rotation for after-hours, emergency support
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications / Skills:
- Knowledge of Windows Server and Windows Desktop Operating Systems.
- Experience in managing IT system deployments/rollouts
- Managing server virtualization technologies, specifically Microsoft Hyper-V
- Hands-on technical troubleshooting capabilities
- A solid understanding of LAN/WAN networking
- Experience with MS Azure Cloud administration
- Flexible and able to adapt to a rapidly changing environment
- Must be organized and able to manage projects of varying lengths
- Positive, self-motivated individual who can complete tasks independently
- Must be a team player
- High customer-service orientation
- Ability to manage technical projects and drive them to completion
- Knowledge of computing infrastructures
- Basic knowledge of scripting languages preferred
- Familiarity with server management and monitoring tools

- Strong interpersonal skills to assist non-technical individuals with complex technical issues
Education and Experience Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field a plus
- 3+ years of experience in a System Administration role
- Previous experience with Microsoft Windows Server
- Previous experience with Microsoft Azure Cloud preferred
- Previous experience with Microsoft 365
- Microsoft certification a plus
Additional Requirements:
The System Administrator role is currently a full-time remote position. To be successful, this position requires the employee to have and maintain a stable, high speed internet connection. The System Administrator must be able to execute all aspects of this position from a home or other remote office using equipment supplied by VPP. Should a decision be made to return to a full-time office working environment the System Administrator may be required to work from the VPP corporate office.
