JOB
Under close supervision, perform a full range of duties within the City’s Animal Care and Adoption Center, including tasks involved in the care of impounded animals, cleaning and maintaining animal care facilities, feeding animals, and observing unusual animal behavior or appearance. Provide assistance to the general public in reclaiming impounded animals or adopting new animals. Safely operate City vehicles and perform related and peripheral duties as necessary or as required.

Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to the following: Clean and maintain animal care facilities and disinfect accordingly. This includes animal runs, cages, housing areas, feeding bowls, equipment, and tools used for the care of impounded animals.Open, close, and secure City Animal Shelter facilities. Report needed repairs of facilities or equipment to supervisory staff.Perform setup and cleanup for special events.Demonstrate responsibility for the care of impounded animals by providing food, water, and comfort.Closely observe and monitor animal behavior and appearance to identify sick or injured animals.Isolate sick, quarantined, or injured animals, closely monitor their condition, and notify the supervisor or other staff member if immediate veterinary care is needed.Exhibit the ability to handle animals in a humane and compassionate manner.Maintain accurate logs, records, and reports for all housed and/or impounded animals, including euthanasia, medical care, feeding, and monitoring.Comply with federal, state, county, and City ordinances regarding animal care and shelter.Provide mutual assistance during emergency situations and share general information about the Division’s activities.Intake animals turned in by the public and complete the necessary documentation.Assist with public inquiries.Accept public complaints, either verbally or in writing, and forward them to the appropriate employee for resolution.Safely operate City vehicles and equipment.
SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION
Work is performed in both indoor and outdoor environments. The incumbent may be exposed to dangerous or wild animals. Noiselevelsareusually moderateindoors andmoderatetoloudinanimalshelter facilitiesandoutdoor areas. Work is performed in a variety of environmental conditions, both indoors and outdoors. When working outdoors, the incumbent may encounter extreme weather conditions, including wet, hot, cold, wind, snow, ice, and heavy vehicle traffic. The use of cleaningchemicalsmayexposeemployeestofumes,dust,andaircontaminants. Physical demands require bending, stooping, and frequently lifting moderately heavy and heavy objects. The ability to stand, walk, stoop and bend for long periods is required, as well as lifting and carrying items weighing up to 100 pounds. The incumbent must be able to see and hear in the normal range with or without correction and communicate verbally and in written form with great facility and must be able to be understood. The incumbent will be required to respond to emergencies outside regular working hours and on weekends, and must be willing to work an irregular schedule, including weekends, holidays, evenings, and/or varying shifts.
