LDWF Inland Hatchery System is seeking to hire a Biologist 1-3 responsible for activities associated with sport fish production across 4 locations; Booker Fowler and Beechwood Fish Hatcheries in Forest Hill, Monroe Fish Hatchery in Monroe, and Huey P. Long Fish Hatchery in Lacombe. This position is domiciled in Forest Hill, Louisiana at the Booker
A bachelor’s degree in a biological science, marine science, environmental science, wildlife or fisheries, animal science, forestry, or natural resources.
Job Duties:
This is a biologist position, directly involved in field and office activities. This position is responsible for activities associated with producing, rearing, transporting, and stocking fish at the Booker Fowler and Beechwood Fish hatchery facilities in Forest Hill, Louisiana. Those activities include, but are not limited to, the following:
Duties include:

Conducts day to day fish culture and grounds maintenance activities including fish care, fish feeding, fish handling, fish production, estimating numbers of fish, sampling fish, fish transport, fish stocking; pond care, pond preparation and fertilizing, water quality monitoring, and pond harvesting.

Applies common sense and general knowledge of the mechanical operations of the hatchery to respond to break-downs, power outages, and frequently changing biochemical situations associated with aquaculture.

Assists Biologist Supervisor with reports and specifications for purchasing/repairing hatchery equipment; documenting vehicle usage, fish production and stocking, bird depredation, fish disease treatment, and aquatic herbicide usage reports.

May represent the department to a variety of job-related contacts; inter/intra-agency workgroups, task forces, lake commissions, technical groups; news media; general public; local and state officials; commercial and industry participants; and conservation and civic groups.

Appointment Type: Probational Appointment, Job Appointment, Detail to Special Duty, Promotion (open to all statewide classified and agency wide permanent status employees)
Career Progression: This position does participate in a Career Progression Group
Compensation: The salary offered will be determined based on qualifications and experience
Current permanent status classified state employees may be required to accept a Probational appointment if selected. If filled as a Job Appointment, there is a possibility that this position may be converted to a Probational Appointment should funding become available.
