Position: The Department of Animal Sciences at Purdue University is seeking an Assistant Professor with research interests in poultry science. This is an academic year (9-months, with additional opportunities for summer appointment), tenure track position. Candidates should have a broad understanding of poultry production across sectors and exhibit depth of expertise in one or more disciplines relevant to the industry, such as nutrition, management, ethology, welfare, physiology, digital agriculture, genetics, egg production and processing, or meat production. Researchers who apply integrated approaches and methodologies or One Health approaches (https://www.purdue.edu/onehealth/) are particularly encouraged to apply as are applicants from various fields including but not limited to animal science, veterinary medicine, agricultural engineering, and agricultural systems, among others.
Responsibilities: The successful candidate will be expected to develop an internationally recognized and extramurally funded research program, interact with a broad range of faculty, staff and students across campus, and contribute to the teaching mission of the department and university. The candidate will be expected to teach existing undergraduate and/or graduate level courses and mentor undergraduate and graduate students. Course modality is generally in person. The potential may exist for teaching online/distance courses during the academic year. Candidates will also be expected to function as active members of the departmental and university faculty and foster a collegial and inclusive environment.
Indiana Poultry and Purdue Animal Sciences: Indiana is home to a large and vibrant poultry industry that ranks #1 in duck production, #3 in egg production, and #4 in turkey production among US states. The Department of Animal Sciences resides in Purdue University’s College of Agriculture which is one of the world’s leading colleges of agricultural, food, life, and natural resource sciences. Requirements: Applicants must have:
- A PhD or equivalent in a relevant field, including but not limited to animal sciences, agricultural engineering, agricultural systems, veterinary medicine or related discipline with all degree requirements satisfied by employment start date.
- A record of publishing peer-reviewed research.
- Strategy to develop a successful, extramurally funded research program.
- Experience teaching in undergraduate or graduate settings.
Appointment and Salary: Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. A background check will be required for employment in this position.
