We are a major grower and processor of eggs and value-added egg products operating 9 company farms near the regional centres of Bendigo, Ballarat, Shepparton, and Geelong, as well as maintaining 2 major grading floors and a processing facility.
What's the job?
The Assistant Farm Manager is an integral part of our leadership team, responsible for assisting the Farm Manager with the overall management of the farm site. The successful applicant will play a key role in ensuring best practice in OHS, animal welfare, production and farm maintenance. The role is hands on, and the manager must be prepared to work directly with livestock, and flexible hours, including evenings and alternating weekends.
· Assist in planning, organizing, and overseeing daily farm activities.
· Support livestock care (feeding, health monitoring, housing conditions)
· Assist in supervising farm workers and allocating daily tasks.
· Provide hands-on training and guidance to workers on farm procedures.
· Responsible for creating and maintaining staff rosters to ensure adequate coverage and within budget.
· Monitor livestock health, performance and report abnormalities.
· Assist with vaccinations, treatments, and health interventions under the guidance of the Farm Manager or veterinarian.
· Ensure proper use and maintenance of farm machinery, tools, and equipment.
· Maintain accurate records of animal health and production data.
· Ensure workers follow safety procedures and use required PPE.
· Perform all other tasks as requested within your skill, competence and training
What experience are we looking for?
To be successful in this role you will have demonstrated experience in the agricultural farming sector, with a minimum of 12 months experience as an Assistant Farm Manger or Leading Hand or have a Bachelor’s degree or higher qualification in a relevant discipline.
· Strong knowledge of poultry husbandry, nutrition and disease management
· Experienced in the use of farm machinery
· Experience leading a team
· Self motivated, with effective time management skills and a flexible attitude to working hours
· Mechanical aptitude
· Have a positive attitude
· Drivers licence
· Record keeping and basic computer skills
