About Nature Aquariums
Nature Aquariums PTY LTD (ABN 91 165 305 331) is a registered Australian Proprietary Company actively engaged in retailing live aquatic stock, including fish, coral, and plants, alongside specialised equipment such as LED lighting, high-performance filtration, and advanced CO2 systems. We operate a pet and aquarium superstore located in Blackburn, VIC. We are seeking a dedicated technical expert to ensure the health and optimal production environment for our diverse range of livestock.
The Role
As an Aquaculture or Fisheries Technician, you will perform essential technical tasks related to husbandry and environmental monitoring, providing critical technical support to assist operations in areas such as research, stock production, servicing, and marketing. This role demands high technical competency in maintaining complex aquatic ecosystems and associated technological infrastructure.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
The successful candidate will undertake the following tasks:
- Aquatic Stock Health and Management: Assist in the raising and management of aquatic stock by undertaking technical fish husbandry tasks. This includes monitoring live stock and aquatic stock to gauge the effectiveness of feed formulae and feeding regimes.
- Disease Control and Monitoring: Examine environmental factors that influence the growth and health of aquatic stock. Identify pathogenic micro-organisms, parasites, fungi, and weeds harmful to aquatic stock, and assist in devising appropriate control methods.
- Water Quality and Environmental Analysis: Sample water and analyse the data collected from ponds, pens, and tanks, ensuring optimal conditions for stock. Perform tests and experiments to maintain required quality standards for aquatic produce before sale.
- Technical Systems Operation: Develop, operate, and maintain complex technological systems and equipment used in primary production, such as advanced filtration, CO2 delivery, and sensor systems.
- Data and Technical Support: Collect and collate operational data for research and stock husbandry purposes. Install, program, test, repair, and maintain animal and crop health monitoring equipment, and provide technical support or advice on technology solutions relevant to the operation.
Qualifications and Experience
Applicants should meet one of the following criteria:
- Hold an AQF Associate Degree, Advanced Diploma, or Diploma.
- Possess at least one year of relevant experience in aquaculture, fisheries, or a related technical field.
- Relevant experience and/or on-the-job training may be required in addition to formal qualifications.
