Remote Veterinary Technician – Clinical Triage & Scheduling Support
Kaua‘i North Shore Animal Clinic | Remote (Hawai‘i preferred, not required)
Kaua‘i North Shore Animal Clinic is seeking an experienced veterinary technician to join our team in a remote clinical support role. This is not a traditional CSR position and is not suitable for entry-level candidates or individuals transitioning into remote work.
This role plays a critical part in urgent care triage, scheduling protection, and medical communication, particularly during high-volume days and Sundays, when thoughtful clinical judgment, clear communication, and teamwork are essential.
Who This Role Is For
This position is a strong fit if you:
- Are a licensed veterinary technician (LVT/RVT/CVT)
or have significant hands-on veterinary technician experience
- Have direct client communication experience as part of your technician role, including:
- Phone-based medical triage
- Urgent or same-day appointment scheduling
- Managing client expectations in stressful or emotional situations
- Have prior experience working remotely in a veterinary role
(This position is not intended for candidates transitioning into remote work for the first time.)
- Are confident making independent triage and scheduling decisions without constant escalation
- Are calm, clear, and professional on the phone—especially with distressed clients
- Are comfortable managing high-volume communication (phones, texting platforms, and email) independently
- Bring a steady, professional, and positive communication style, even during high-stress or emotional situations
- Are comfortable receiving feedback, talking through situations that didn’t go as planned, and adjusting their approach moving forward
Who Should NOT Apply
Please do not apply if you:
- Have only worked in-clinic and do not have prior remote experience
- Are a CSR without veterinary medical training
- Are a veterinary assistant without urgent care or triage experience
- Are seeking a transition from hands-on patient care into a communication-heavy role
- Require close supervision or step-by-step guidance for scheduling or triage decisions
Core Responsibilities
- Answer incoming phone calls during assigned shifts, including Sundays
- Triage urgent appointment requests and determine appropriate scheduling
- Apply clinic-specific workflows to protect schedule capacity and support a lean in-clinic team during high-volume periods
- Manage incoming client communication across all platforms (phones, messaging systems, and email)
- Review, correct, and document appointment details accurately
- Perform follow-up calls and client communication
- Escalate appropriately when doctor input or additional clinical review is required
- Reduce clinical and scheduling burden on in-clinic staff
Schedule & Availability Requirements
- Thursday–Sunday availability is required
- Core hours are 7:30 AM – 5:30 PM HST
- This role requires flexibility to remain engaged until critical tasks are completed, particularly on high-volume or urgent days
(This is not a strict “clock-out” role; remote team members are expected to stay aligned with in-clinic workflow and patient needs.)
- Sunday coverage is essential and non-negotiable
Compensation
Compensation is commensurate with experience, credentials, and scope of responsibility. This role reflects advanced responsibility and independent clinical judgment; compensation is structured accordingly.
Our Values & Team Culture
We value clear communication, sound judgment, and shared responsibility. Our remote team members are not separate from the clinic—they are an extension of it and play a critical role in supporting a lean in-clinic team during high-volume days.
Kaua‘i North Shore Animal Clinic is the only veterinary clinic open on Sundays on the island, and there are no 24-hour or emergency hospitals available locally. As a result, this role requires thoughtful, confident triage and strong leadership in client communication, particularly when clients are distressed or urgent.
Compassion is essential, but so is the ability to remain calm, directive, and structured—to follow established workflows, set appropriate boundaries, and guide conversations in a way that protects clinic operations and the sustainability of the in-clinic team.
