Responsibilities
- Assist veterinarians during examinations, surgeries, and diagnostic procedures by preparing equipment and maintaining a sterile environment using aseptic techniques.
- Perform animal restraint and handling with confidence, ensuring safety for both animals and staff during examinations or treatments.
- Conduct laboratory tests, including blood work, urinalysis, and other diagnostics to support accurate diagnoses.
- Maintain detailed medical records, including vaccination history, treatment plans, and laboratory results.
- Support pet care activities such as grooming, feeding, administering medications, and monitoring recovery post-procedure.
- Take and develop X-ray images while ensuring proper animal positioning and safety protocols are followed.
- Handle animal husbandry tasks including cleaning cages, feeding animals, and maintaining a clean and organized work environment.
- Assist with dental procedures by understanding dental terminology and performing routine dental cleanings or assisting during more complex dental surgeries.
- Support animal catheterization, intravenous access, and other critical care procedures as needed.
- Manage animal restraint during diagnostic imaging or treatments with skillful use of dog handling techniques and animal physiology knowledge.
Skills
- Proven kennel experience combined with animal handling expertise across various species.
- Strong understanding of veterinary terminology, animal anatomy, and physiology to support accurate communication and procedures.
- Experience with veterinary critical care practices including emergency response scenarios.
- Laboratory experience involving sample collection, processing, and analysis.
- Equine experience is a plus for those interested in working with larger animals.
- Familiarity with pet grooming techniques and dog training methods enhances overall pet care quality.
- Knowledge of aseptic techniques essential for maintaining infection control standards during invasive procedures.
- Ability to operate X-ray equipment safely while understanding radiation safety protocols.
- Excellent animal restraint skills using appropriate equipment to ensure safety during examinations or treatments.
