About the Role
We are seeking an Assistant Farm Manager with a strong background in ag equipment maintenance, diesel mechanics, and farm operations to join our team in Harbor Beach, MI. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys both leading people and working hands-on with machinery, repairs, and seasonal field operations. You will work directly with ownership and play a key role in keeping our fleet of tractors, combines, planters, grain handling equipment, and trucks running efficiently while helping supervise junior staff. This is a long-term leadership opportunity within a growing agricultural business.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide leadership and daily support to shop and field employees
- Oversee and direct all farm equipment and truck maintenance, repairs, and servicing
- Perform and supervise welding, fabrication, basic electrical, air brake, and hydraulic repairs
- Maintain accurate service logs and equipment maintenance records
- Keep the farm shop clean, safe, and organized
- Order and manage parts inventory, shop supplies, and repair materials
- Assist with seasonal farm operations, including planting and harvest
- Operate high-level equipment such as planters, combines, grain dryers, sprayers, and tillage equipment
- Ensure compliance with safety, maintenance, and operational standards
- Operate farm trucks as needed (CDL required seasonally)
Qualifications
- High School Diploma required; technical or trade school training preferred
- 5+ years of experience in agriculture, diesel mechanics, construction, or industrial maintenance
- Experience with heavy equipment, farm machinery, or commercial vehicles
- Leadership or supervisory experience preferred
- Strong problem-solving and independent work ethic
- CDL (minimum F endorsement) or ability to obtain
Schedule
- Approximately 75% of the year is a structured 40-hour work week
- Approximately 25% of the year requires 55–70 hours per week during planting and harvest
- Seasonal weekend work required during peak farm operations
Compensation & Benefits
- $30–$36 per hour, based on experience
