Main Duties/Responsibilities:
- Participate in being responsible as a team member in the farm in terms of the required human resources, physical resources, safety requirements, consumables and documentation required
- Ensure compliance of the Company QA program for the site ensuring that all relevant documentation is kept current
- Assist and participate in the use of any technology used to complete tasks
- Assist in supervision of data collection and recording so information is accurate to aid stock and inventory control.
- Weighing and movement of pigs and select stock for sale. This involves loading and unloading pigs from sheds to trucks and also transport carrier on sale days.
- Participate in daily inspection of livestock, such that the animals are appropriately fed, watered and health checked.
- Participate in daily feeding and watering of all pigs.
- Participate in daily inspection of livestock, ensuring compromised animals are individually assessed, identified, treated and recorded.
- Euthanise sick or injured stock in a humane manner and in accordance with the Model Code of Practice for the Welfare of Animals: Pigs.
- Assist and participate in the mating of animals via individually supervised natural mating or through artificial insemination.
- Supervise the birthing process, including the ability to physically conduct unsupervised internal assessments during parturition to minimise mortality rates.
- Ensure optimal sow care before, during and after birthing of piglets to insure piglet survivability.
- Complete repairs and maintenance as required
- Participate in meetings and contribute where necessary regarding feedback and production parameters.
- Attend any training as required
- Pressure clean pens and ensure optimal hygiene in piggery sheds.
- Wean pigs, move pigs and participate in all the husbandry required for production unit including vaccinations, medication and treatments required.
- Perform any other duty as required by the unit supervisor or managers.
- Be willing and able to work a weekend roster
- High attention to detail to ensure optimal results in Breeder unit and Grower facility.
- Be self-motivated and able to follow procedures.
- Able to work well in a team environment and communicate effectively.
- Able to work to high animal welfare standards.
- Physically fit - labouring required and physically demanding tasks.
- Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) Certificate III in Agriculture (Pig Production), OR equivalent qualifications + 3 years of recent and relevant work experience, OR 5 years of recent and relevant work experience.
