Job Overview:
The Kennel Technician is responsible for ensuring the health, safety, and well-being of animals in our care. This role involves providing daily care, supervision, and support for pets, and maintaining a clean and safe environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Animal Care: Feed, water, and care for animals according to specified instructions. Monitor animal health and behavior, reporting any concerns to veterinary staff.
- Cleaning: Maintain cleanliness of kennels, exercise areas, and surrounding facilities. This includes regular cleaning of animal enclosures and waste removal.
- Record Keeping: Maintain accurate records of animal care, including feeding times, health notes, and behavior observations.
- Exercise and Socialization: Provide regular exercise and socialization for animals, including walking dogs and engaging them in playtime activities.
- Feeding and Nutrition: Prepare and distribute food according to dietary requirements and ensure fresh water is always available.
- Customer Interaction: Communicate with pet owners regarding their animals’ well-being, behavior, and any concerns, ensuring a strong customer service approach.
- Support Veterinary Procedures: Assist veterinarians and veterinary technicians as needed during examinations and treatments.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent; further education in animal care, veterinary technology, or related fields is a plus.
- Experience working with animals is preferred (e.g., in a kennel, shelter, or veterinary clinic).
- Strong understanding of animal behavior and basic animal care.
- Ability to perform physical tasks, including lifting and handling animals.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Work Environment:
Kennel Technicians typically work in facilities that house animals. The role may require working weekends, holidays, and during inclement weather.
