What You Will Get To Do

Reporting to the Supervisor, By-law and Animal Services, the Animal Care Attendant is responsible for providing high standards of animal care, shelter operations support, and public service at the Animal Services Centre. This role supports the health, safety, and well-being of sheltered animals while ensuring a welcoming, professional environment for the public.
Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Providing daily animal care including feeding, cleaning, sanitizing housing areas, and enrichment activities in accordance with best practices, policies, and guidelines.
Administering minor medical and health treatments, including vaccinations, parasite control, and medications, under the general direction of a Veterinarian.
Monitoring animal health and behaviour and maintaining accurate daily health and treatment records.
Conducting general physical and behavioural assessments upon animal intake.
Assisting with the transportation of animals to veterinary appointments, including spay/neuter procedures and other required medical visits.
Providing customer service and administrative support, including reception duties, processing transactions, responding to inquiries, and educating the public on Town policies and by-laws.
Answering and directing telephone and in-person inquiries in a courteous, professional, and confidential manner.
Maintaining accurate records related to lost and found pets, shelter intakes, adoptions, and licensing.
Performing general janitorial and facility maintenance duties, including cleaning, grounds keeping, and snow clearing, to ensure a safe and sanitary environment.
Processing financial transactions in accordance with established procedures.
Supporting the promotion of animal adoptions through the Town’s website and other communication channels.

Who You Are
Our Animal Services team is looking for a self-motivated, solutions-oriented team player. You convey your thoughts clearly and concisely, both written and verbally. You listen attentively and ask questions for clarification and understanding. Using sound judgment, you demonstrate tact, diplomacy and sound discretion when working with the general public on issues of a sensitive nature.
You’re always happy to learn new thing s and to help build a working environment that encourages and cultivates new ideas. You foster a collaborative team environment among co-workers, and work well both independently and as part of a team. You solve problems by identifying, gathering and processing relevant information to determine possible solutions, evaluate them and make recommendations.
What You Bring To Our Team
As the successful applicant, you must possess:
A post-secondary diploma or certificate in Veterinary Technician, Animal Care, Police Foundations, Law and Security Administration, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Minimum of one (1) year of related experience in a municipal animal shelter, veterinary clinic, animal care facility, or similar environment, including hands-on animal care and administrative duties.
Working knowledge of municipal by-laws and applicable provincial legislation.
Demonstrated knowledge of animal behaviour, handling, and care practices.
Strong computer proficiency, including experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and database systems.
Ability to safely perform the physical requirements of the role, including lifting, carrying, bending, standing for extended periods, and working in varying environmental conditions, with or without accommodation.
Strong attention to detail, sound judgment, and effective decision-making skills.
Ability to work safely and in compliance with all workplace health and safety regulations and procedures.
Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team environment.
A valid Ontario Class “G” Driver’s Licence in good standing
