As our Fur-tastic Kennel Concierge you will assist in the running of the daily operations of our boarding kennel - which is essentially a hotel for very furry, occasionally muddy and always opinionated VIPs (Very Important Pets). Your mission, keep tails wagging, kennels immaculately clean, and humans reassured that their precious fur-babies are in excellent hands.
Duties will include:
- Provide food, water and general admiration of our guests.
- Clean kennels, bowls and all mysterious and often fragrant substances which defy scientific explanation.
- Exercise dogs and pretend you are not being taken for a walk by a particularly enthusiastic guest.
- Watch and report on any signs of illness, distress, or overly dramatic attention-seeking behaviour.
- Assist with baths, brushing and convincing some dogs that no, they won't drown and yes, the hair dryer is safe.
- Keep accurate records such as medical details and who destroyed their bed/toy that day.
- Support the check in and check out process for pets and occasionally overwhelmed owners.
- Follow safety and hygiene procedures.
- Greet customers with warmth and professionalism and the confidence of someone who can wrestle a muddy spaniel...and win.
- Communicate clearly and calmly, even when an owner provides a 45min monologue of their dogs bed time routine.
- Listen carefully and record dietary quirks and rules (eg Bella only eats chicken if cut into triangles).
- Provide reassuring updates to owners who miss their dogs so much more than their dogs miss them.
- Handle concerns with empathy, patience and humour even if the situation becomes more dramatic than a Daschund denied a treatie.
- Represent the kennel with positivity and professionalism, showing owners that their pets are in safe and loving hands.
- Help create a friendly environment where humans leave smiling and dogs leave happy and tired (the dream!).
Skills and qualities required:
- Physically fit - lots of walking, lifting large dogs whose legs suddenly 'forget' how to work and chasing escape artists.
- Comfortable working in all weather- yes, even the 'how-is-it-this hot' and muddy-paw apocalypse days.
- Quick reflexes for poop-scooping, door-closing and zoomie-dodging.
- Happy to get muddy, hairy and slobbered on daily.
- Strong work ethic, great stamina and a sense of humour.
- A genuine love for animals and confidence handling dogs of all breeds and sizes.
- Good numeracy and literacy skills
Weekend availability essential - dogs don't care about Sunday sleep-ins.
This job will be perfect for someone who is in it for the wagging tails and happy customers...and you will get in your 10,000 steps per day.
