Key Responsibilities

Monitor anesthesia during surgical procedures with confidence and accuracy
Perform intubation and extubation of patients
Calculate and administer anesthetic and perioperative medications
Assist veterinarians during surgical procedures
Maintain detailed anesthesia and surgical records
Ensure proper patient recovery monitoring and comfort
Uphold the highest standards of safety, cleanliness, and patient advocacy

Qualifications

Veterinary Technician experience required (licensed preferred, but not mandatory depending on state)
Strong skills in anesthesia monitoring and airway management
Solid understanding of drug calculations and dosing
CPR certification preferred, but not required
Calm, detail-oriented, and able to work efficiently under pressure
Team-focused mindset with excellent communication skills

Duties

Prepare surgical suites by sterilizing instruments, setting up equipment, and ensuring aseptic techniques are strictly followed to prevent infections.
Assist veterinarians during surgeries by handling instruments, monitoring anesthesia levels, and managing patient positioning with precision.
Perform animal restraint and handling using proper techniques to ensure safety for both animals and staff during procedures.
Conduct pre-operative assessments including animal physiology checks, vital signs monitoring, and ensuring patient readiness for surgery.
Manage post-operative care such as wound management, administering medications, and observing animals for signs of distress or complications.
Maintain detailed records of surgical procedures, anesthesia logs, laboratory results, and patient progress in compliance with clinic protocols.
Support laboratory testing by collecting samples, preparing specimens, and operating diagnostic equipment like X-ray machines to aid in accurate diagnosis.

Qualifications

Proven kennel experience combined with veterinary technician experience or equivalent training in animal care settings.
Strong understanding of veterinary terminology, animal anatomy, physiology, and aseptic techniques essential for surgical support.
Experience with dental terminology and procedures. Understanding of dental x-rays is highly desirable.
Knowledge of laboratory procedures including sample collection and analysis; experience with X-ray operation is highly desirable.
Demonstrated ability to handle animals safely using proper restraint techniques; pet care and animal husbandry skills are vital.
Prior veterinary critical care experience or equine experience is advantageous but not mandatory; willingness to learn is essential.
Excellent communication skills for collaborating with veterinary team members and educating pet owners about post-surgical care.
