Job Description: Our client is seeking an experienced Mixed Animal Veterinarian with strong Companion Animal (CA) skills to join a proactive and supportive team based in the scenic region of Wānaka. This full-time position (40 hours per week) includes rostered Saturdays and participation in a mixed after-hours rotation.
This opportunity is ideal for a senior veterinarian who enjoys a varied caseload, values high standards of clinical care, and is confident working across both companion and production animals. The role places a strong emphasis on small animal medicine and surgery while contributing to mixed after-hours and occasional daytime large animal work. Leadership opportunities are available for candidates interested in mentoring and contributing to clinic development.
In this position, your responsibilities will include:
- Deliver high-quality medical and surgical care to companion animals
- Participate in mixed animal after-hours services, including sheep, beef, and equine cases
- Support herd health and disease prevention programs when required
- Collaborate closely with veterinary nurses, technicians, and support staff
- Maintain strong client communication with pet owners and farming clients
- Contribute to the growth and development of the small animal service
Qualifications Needed:
- Bachelor of Veterinary Science (or equivalent)
- Eligibility for New Zealand Veterinary Council registration and Annual Practicing Certificate
- Proven experience in mixed animal practice with strong companion animal skills
- Competence in small animal surgery and consulting
- Experience with sheep, beef, and equine cases for after-hours provision
- Strong communication and organisational skills
- Leadership experience or interest considered advantageous
