Overview
North Yarmouth Veterinary Hospital is a close-knit, community-focused, PRIVATELY OWNED practice located in North Yarmouth, Maine. We are dedicated to providing exceptional care for pets and building lasting relationships with their families. We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate full-time Veterinary Technician to join our team who shares our passion for animals and loves making a real difference every day! In this role, you will work closely with veterinarians and other staff to provide high-quality care for animals. We see dogs, cats, and some exotic pocket pets (rabbits, ferrets, guinea pigs, and more). Your expertise will be essential in ensuring the health and well-being of our patients, as well as supporting pet owners during their visits.
Duties
- Assist veterinarians with exams, treatments, surgeries, dental procedures, and more.
- Perform routine laboratory tests and analyze samples.
- Provide gentle, skilled nursing care to our patients (wellness visits, sick appointments, and everything in between). Handling patients with care and compassion to reduce stress during visits.
- Perform lab work, radiology, anesthesia monitoring, and other technical skills
- Maintain accurate medical records for each patient
- Documenting client communications, making follow-up phone calls, and answering general questions via phone, email, and texting applications.
- Educate clients on preventative care, treatment plans, and the importance of regular veterinary wellness- helping pet owners feel informed and confident.
- Build strong, trusting relationships with clients through clear communication, empathy, and outstanding service.
- Ensure a clean and safe environment by adhering to sanitation protocols. Helping with autoclave sterilization of surgical instruments.
Skills
The ideal candidate will possess the following skills:
- Strong knowledge of animal husbandry and preventative care recommendations (including vaccinations, diet, preventative medications, blood work recommendations, and more).
- Familiarity with anesthesia monitoring, dental terminology, dental radiology, dental scaling and polishing, and aseptic preparation techniques for surgical procedures.
- Excellent animal handling skills to ensure the safety of both pets and staff.
- Venipuncture and IV catheter placement. Ability to administer medications via subcutaneous, intramuscular, and intravascular injection.
- Autoclave use and sterilization protocols for instrument packs, surgical gowns, and drapes.
- Strong communication skills with both clients and fellow employees. A positive attitude and puncutality.
- The ability to anticipate other team member needs, jump in when needed without being asked, and help the day flow smoothly.
- The ability to multi-task and stay organized in a fast paced environment
