Full Time Veterinary Husbandry Technician
Monday through Friday 8am-5pm, with rotating weekend shifts. 40hrs per week.

General Summary:
Under general direction, conduct a variety of functions related to animal husbandry in the context of biomedical research in a Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) environment, such as facility and equipment sanitation, cleaning, feeding, and housing of study animals. Observe animal health and behavior and report to management. Assist with pre- and postoperative treatment of large and small animals involved in surgery, as well as, assisting with study procedures. Perform other tasks such as animal husbandry and record keeping in accordance with study protocol requirements to accomplish study and regulatory compliance objectives.
Primary Responsibilities and Competencies:

- Perform daily animal monitoring and room checks as assigned, including attendant documentation procedures e.g. animal weights, post op observations in accordance with laboratory standard operating procedures (SOPs) and GLP regulations.
- Assist with receipt of animals
- Provide proper sanitation of animal housing spaces and equipment in animal rooms including proper use and maintenance of cage wash equipment
- Record data on logs and worksheets as directed
- Maintain and perform housekeeping of facility including general sanitation of facility
- Assist study personnel in animal preparation, surgery, and other research related tasks, including pre-operative preparation, radiography, anesthesia monitoring, blood sample procurement, necropsy preparation, clean up/break down and other duties as assigned
- Assist with vermin control, waste disposal, maintenance and cleaning of indoor and outdoor areas of the facility

Required Education, Experience and Certification:
· 6 months of experience in animal handling/health
· Basic knowledge of MS Word, Excel, and Windows
· Ability to work limited hours on weekends and holidays on a rotating basis.
· Ability to lift at least 50 pounds
· Must be able to wear personal protective equipment such as masks, gloves, lab coat, scrubs and other apparel as required
· Valid driver's license
Preferred Education, Qualifications & Experience:
· Previous experience in biomedical research or a veterinary environment

· Employees will be expected to work inside and outside throughout the year.
· Employees will be expected to handle animals and lift large livestock.
· Employees will be expected to dispose of animal waste.
· Employees will be working with hazardous chemicals.
· Employees will be required to always wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment.
· Employees will be working with heavy materials on a consistent basis.
