Veterinary Assistant Job Description
General Description of Position
The veterinary assistant works closely with the veterinarian and technician team throughout the day with the goal of meeting the needs of our clients and patients. These activities can include patient exams, surgery, diagnostic tests and performing medical treatments.
The assistant is also vital in caring for the everyday needs of pets in the hospital ward and boarding facility, if applicable, and helps maintain the hospital facility, keeping it neat and clean.
Job Requirements/ Skills/ Physical Demands
An employee in this position must have a strong sense of compassion for both the animals and the clients. We ask that you come eager for knowledge and make every effort to communicate clearly with your team. You also need to be able to be able to lift approximately 50 pounds, walk dogs of up to 130 pounds, work on feet all day, and read and understand English.
Reports to: Veterinary Technician Supervisor, Practice Manager and
Office Manager.
Essential Functions
- The essential functions of the veterinary assistant are geared towards a detailed mentorship in the roles of a veterinary technician/nurse
- Provide compassionate care for pets, clients and co-workers
- Learn the skills of appropriate medical record keeping
- Learn the SOPs and Processes which govern our hospital
- Gain knowledge to assist in the care of surgical patients- including patient monitoring, sterility and post-operative recovery

Job Types: Full-time, Part-time
Pay: $16.00 - $19.00 per hour
