Aurochs Veterinary Service is a small one doctor practice, located in Audubon, MN, which is the heart of lakes country, seeking a full or part time veterinary assistant/receptionist to join our team. We are seeking a compassionate and detail-oriented Veterinary Assistant/Receptionist to join our team. This dual-role position offers an opportunity to provide exceptional animal care while delivering outstanding client service. The ideal candidate will have experience in animal handling, veterinary terminology, and front desk operations, with a passion for pet care and animal welfare. Prior experience in veterinary clinics, kennel management, or animal husbandry is highly valued. This role is essential in ensuring smooth clinic operations, high-quality patient care, and excellent client communication.
Responsibilities
- Greet clients and their pets warmly, providing excellent customer service at the front desk
- Schedule appointments, manage client records, and handle phone inquiries efficiently
- Assist with animal restraint during examinations and treatments to ensure safety for both animals and staff
- Administer medications and perform basic medical procedures under supervision
- Support veterinary staff with laboratory procedures, sample collection, and maintaining aseptic techniques
- Care for hospitalized animals, including feeding, cleaning, and monitoring vital signs
- Assist with animal husbandry duties including feeding, cleaning enclosures, and maintaining a clean environment
- Maintain accurate medical records using veterinary terminology and documentation standards
- Manage inventory of medical supplies, medications, and laboratory materials
Requirements
- Previous experience in veterinary clinics or animal care settings is preferred; including veterinary assistant or technician experience
- Knowledge of veterinary terminology, animal anatomy, physiology, and aseptic techniques
- Ability to perform pet restraint safely during examinations or procedures
- Familiarity with medication administration and laboratory procedures related to veterinary medicine
- Strong front desk skills including scheduling, client communication, and record keeping
- Kennel experience or pet care background is advantageous
- Excellent animal handling skills with an understanding of pet behavior and pet care needs
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail
- Compassionate attitude towards animals and clients alike
