About the role
We're looking for a Farming Systems Liaison Officer to join our Grower Services & Extension team on an initial
2-year fixed-term contract to help shape the future of climate-smart rice farming in the Riverina.
This role sits at the intersection of agriculture and environmental stewardship - supporting growers to enhance biodiversity, improve water efficiency, and adopt regenerative farming practices across the Murray and Murrumbidgee Valleys.
Working from Deniliquin through to Griffith, you'll spend your days connecting with local growers, First Nations groups, Government agencies, universities and conservation organisations. Your ability to communicate clearly and build strong rapport will be essential as you support knowledge-sharing, on-farm adoption, and long-term resilience of our rice-growing landscapes.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Collaborating with growers to implement soil health, biodiversity and water-efficiency initiatives
- Supporting ecological monitoring, habitat restoration and native species protection
- Working closely with First Nations organisations to respectfully incorporate Indigenous knowledge and cultural values
- Helping growers access environmental grants, stewardship incentives and environmental water
- Facilitating field walks, workshops and extension activities across the region
- Contributing to educational resources such as factsheets, digital modules and grower guides
- Supporting the development of curriculum-linked materials for university students
About You
You are relationship-focused, curious and deeply passionate about how productive agriculture and healthy ecosystems can thrive together. You enjoy being out in the field, engaging with growers, listening, and working collaboratively to create practical, meaningful impact.
You will bring:
- Tertiary qualifications in agriculture, environmental science, Natural Resource Management or related fields
- Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills
- Understanding of (or are eager to learn about) rice production and irrigated systems
- Experience working in rural or regional communities
- A demonstrated interest in biodiversity, ecology, soils or regenerative agriculture
- Comfortable working independently across a broad geographic area
- Value biodiversity, Indigenous knowledge, cultural heritage, and community collaboration
- A current Australian driver's licence
