Due to continued growth, the company is seeking a
NPD Food Technologist to join their collaborative team.
About the Role
Reporting to the R&D Manager, this role plays a key part in leading and delivering new product development (NPD), renovation and cost optimisation projects from concept through to successful commercialisation.
You'll thrive in a fast-paced manufacturing environment, balancing strong technical food science capability with hands-on factory execution. This is a highly practical role - ideal for someone who enjoys coordinating plant trials, solving technical challenges, and managing multiple cross-functional projects simultaneously.
Working closely with Marketing, Sales, Operations, Supply Chain and Quality teams, you will contribute to the long-term innovation pipeline while ensuring all products meet commercial objectives, regulatory requirements and customer expectations.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead NPD and product improvement projects from concept through to commercial launch
- Develop and refine formulations, ingredient specifications and processing parameters
- Coordinate and lead plant trials, scale-up activities and factory testing
- Drive product renovation, cost optimisation and ingredient substitution initiatives
- Collaborate cross-functionally to align projects with business and customer objectives
- Research industry trends and emerging food innovation to support pipeline development
- Present project updates, risks and recommendations to stakeholders
- Maintain accurate R&D documentation including formulations, specifications and trial reports
- Ensure compliance with Food Standards Australia New Zealand (FSANZ), HACCP, GMP and customer standards
- Support smooth handover of new products to Operations post-launch
About You
- Tertiary qualification in Food Science, Food Technology or related discipline
- 5+ years' experience in food manufacturing NPD (bakery experience highly regarded)
- Proven track record delivering products from concept to launch
- Strong knowledge of Australian food regulations and food safety frameworks
- Practical understanding of HACCP and GMP in manufacturing environments
- Hands-on, organised and confident managing multiple priorities
- Strong problem-solving skills and cross-functional communication ability
