Our primarily companion animal coastal rural veterinary practice in the Midwest region of Western Australia is looking for the right person to assist with improving our canine obedience and behavioural training, working directly with clients and veterinarians, nurses and reception staff to improve standards of practice.
The role is ideally suited to a candidate with a strong veterinary practice background along with experience with and a passion for animal behaviour and training. There is some scope to work with other species.
Duties include:
- Instruction and Behavioural Modification: Teaching dogs to obey verbal and non-verbal commands and addressing specific behavioural problems. This includes running puppy preschool classes, conducting one-on-one training with owners, and managing behaviour within the hospital setting, in all areas from the consultation room to inpatient handling.
- Protocol Development and Staff Training: Creating, monitoring, and maintaining practice protocols for the safe and stress-free handling of patients to reduce the risk of injury to staff and clients. You will also provide ongoing training and support to veterinary staff to ensure these standards are met.
- Clinical Support and Health Monitoring: Maintaining detailed animal health records during daily husbandry tasks and reporting any health concerns or serious conditions to the hospital’s Veterinarians.
- Grooming and Hygiene: Performing essential grooming tasks, such as bathing, clipping coats, cleaning ears, and trimming nails.
- Daily Care and Husbandry: Managing individual feeding schedules based on nutritional needs and ensuring all animal enclosures are cleaned, disinfected, and well-maintained.
- Physical Wellbeing and Engagement: Organising exercise and play sessions for the dogs and providing information to visitors and owners regarding animal welfare and training techniques.
- Biosecurity: Applying pest control treatments, such as topical and oral parasiticides, or other specific treatments for animals and their housing when necessary.
- The candidate will be involved in the day to day running of the veterinary practice and be expected to be flexible in their duties given the unpredictable nature of clinical work.
Pay: From $77,500.00 per year
