This position will remain open until a suitable candidate is found.\r\n\r\n \r\n\r\nHansen Agri-PLACEMENT is looking for a The Sow Farm Manager is responsible for overseeing all daily operations of a swine sow unit. This includes—but is not limited to—managing breeding and farrowing targets, artificial insemination (AI), semen inventory and delivery, individual sow and piglet care, feed management, weekly farrowing schedules, herd health and vaccination programs, nutrition, gilt isolation and acclimation, staff development, and accurate record keeping.\r\n\r\nAdministration & Farm Oversight\r\n\r\n\r\n\tAssist the Sow Service Manager in preparing and managing farm and departmental budgets.\r\n\tSubmit weekly wean pig projections to the Sow Service Manager.\r\n\tMaintain and submit accurate weekly farm records to the Production Records Department.\r\n\tOversee and maintain environmental controls and pit status; coordinate timely nutrient removal with farm owners.\r\n\tManage the removal and disposal of deceased animals.\r\n\tEnforce and maintain comprehensive biosecurity protocols across the farm.\r\n\tMonitor and manage feed ordering and delivery processes.\r\n\tTrack and order all necessary medications, semen, and operational supplies.\r\n\tInspect and ensure proper maintenance of facilities, equipment, and backup generator functionality.\r\n\tSupervise, evaluate, and support all farm employees; conduct performance reviews in coordination with Department Managers.\r\n\tIdentify and report health concerns to the Company Veterinarian.\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\nDaily Operations\r\n\r\n\r\n\tSupervise daily animal feeding, hydration checks, sow condition monitoring, and overall facility cleanliness.\r\n\tEnsure herd health through routine observation and care.\r\n\tManage semen delivery, inventory, and expiration monitoring.\r\n\tOversee cull sow identification and transportation logistics.\r\n\r\n\r\nDepartmental Duties\r\n\r\n\r\nBreeding Department\r\n\r\n\r\n\tConduct daily heat checks and AI procedures for sows and gilts.\r\n\tManage gilt inventory and gilt flow within the operation.\r\n\tMonitor 21- and 42-day heat checks and 50-day pregnancy confirmations.\r\n\tCoordinate sow movement with Farrowing Department Head.\r\n\tAssist with weaning operations as needed.\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\nGilt Development & Isolation\r\n\r\n\r\n\tMaintain and administer the department’s vaccination schedule.\r\n\tMonitor health status of gilts during isolation and acclimation.\r\n\tOrganize scheduling, delivery, and internal movement of gilts.\r\n\tImplement and manage best practices for gilt development, including breeding age and feed regimens.\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\nFarrowing Department\r\n\r\n\r\n\tCoordinate sow movement between breeding and farrowing departments.\r\n\tSchedule and supervise piglet processing, vaccination, and weaning activities.\r\n\tEnsure genetic identification through tagging and notching at birth.\r\n\tProvide three-week wean pig projections to Sow Service Manager.\r\n\tEnsure accurate counting and tracking of piglets weaned to nursery units.\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\nPiglet Development\r\n\r\n\r\n\tOversee daily piglet processing tasks (iron shots, tail clipping, castration).\r\n\tManage cross-fostering practices to ensure healthy litter development.\r\n\tSupervise weaning and vaccination schedules.\r\n\tMaintain quality control standards for piglets prior to weaning.\r\n\tCoordinate movement and transportation of non-select piglets.\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\nEmployee Administration\r\n\r\n\r\n\tTrain all staff in compliance with NFP Policies and Procedures.\r\n\tGuide staff in accurate production record keeping.\r\n\tPromote teamwork and lead by example in daily operations.\r\n\tMentor team members in time management and production skills.\r\n\tFacilitate regular staff meetings focused on productivity, expectations, and problem-solving.\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\nBusiness & Operational Management\r\n\r\n\r\n\tParticipate in weekly conference calls with fellow sow farm managers.\r\n\tProvide monthly variance analysis and explanations for farm profit and loss statements.\r\n\tAttend quarterly production meetings and other required training sessions.\r\n\tEnsure compliance with all safety and biosecurity protocols as outlined by company policy.\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\nAdditional Requirements\r\n\r\n\r\n\tRegular, consistent attendance is mandatory.\r\n\tMust be willing to perform any other tasks or responsibilities as assigned.\r\n\tDemonstrate a proactive attitude and commitment to high standards of animal welfare, farm efficiency, and team development.\r\n\r\n\r\n \r\n\r\n \r\n\r\n \r\n\r\nBENEFITS:\r\n\r\n \r\n\r\n401k Match, Health/Dental/Vision/Life Insurance, PTO\r\n\r\n \r\n\r\n \r\n\r\nALL INQUIRIES ARE KEPT CONFIDENTIAL.
