Job Description: Our client is seeking an Emergency and Critical Care (ECC) Veterinarian to join a 24-hour veterinary hospital located in Hamilton, Waikato. This role offers the opportunity to work in a fast-paced emergency environment providing urgent care to companion animals across the wider Waikato region.
The hospital is purpose-built for emergency medicine and is equipped with advanced diagnostic and monitoring technology. The successful candidate will work alongside experienced veterinarians and skilled nursing staff while managing a diverse and challenging ECC caseload. This position is ideal for a veterinarian looking to develop strong emergency medicine skills within a supportive team environment.
In this position, your responsibilities will include:
- Assessing and managing emergency and critical care cases for companion animals
- Performing urgent medical and surgical interventions when required
- Utilising advanced diagnostic tools to support patient assessment and treatment
- Monitoring hospitalised patients and adjusting treatment plans accordingly
- Communicating clearly with pet owners regarding patient status and care plans
- Collaborating with veterinary nurses and clinicians to deliver effective emergency care
Qualifications Needed:
- Veterinary degree from an accredited university
- Eligibility for registration with the Veterinary Council of New Zealand
- Minimum two years of clinical veterinary experience preferred
- Interest in emergency and critical care medicine
- Ability to work independently during overnight or emergency shifts
- Strong communication and teamwork skills within a clinical environment
