The position provides technical service by applying specialized knowledge of the CIAP (Center for Innovative Aquaculture Production) Research Facility and is part of a team responsible for the successful day-to- day operation of the facility and fish husbandry. The incumbent performs daily fish culture routines and other procedures that are required for the rearing of healthy organisms. This position will monitor and adjust water quality parameters to ensure optimum water quality and troubleshoots and reports complications related to disease pathogens or system issues that may impact fish health. The incumbent follows established Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Animal Use Protocols (AUPs) approved by the Animal Care Committee. The incumbent monitors and ensures all equipment are operating to specifications and maintains records of equipment usage.
The technician monitors and maintains a safe work environment for all staff, students and visitors and may be required to provide support to weekend student fish hatchery workers.
The position may be required to assist with sampling of fish and to ensure accurate data recording to ensure successful research outcomes.
Work Schedules:
This position has been designated as on-campus and is expected on-site 100% of the time.
Temporary opportunity from April to October 2026.
Expected work schedule Wednesday through Saturday.

Completion of a two (2) year Diploma in Biology, Aquaculture or similar related field.
A minimum of six months of work experience in research would be an asset, familiar with fish handling and behaviour would be an asset.
