Job Title: Husbandry Technician

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Department: Vivarium

Direct Reports: Vivarium Supervisor

Description: Responsible for the maintenance, care, documentation, and overall organization of both animal housing and procedure rooms.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Perform daily health and environmental observations.
Perform routine cage cleaning and ensure the animals have food and water.
Accurate documentation of all active and ongoing health cases, treatment plans, weight sheets, and other required documentation per protocol and regulatory guidelines.
Work In Cage Wash
Routine sanitation of animal rooms, procedure rooms, and support areas.
Assist with the general facility upkeep while maintaining USDA and AAALAC quality.
Ensures compliance with GLP, AAALAC, AWA, OLAW, OSHA, and other applicable regulations or guidelines and with company policies and practices on animal care and research security which may include interacting with inspectors and representatives of enforcement agencies.
Assist with animal-related procedures such as daily medications, wound care, and dosing as needed.
Prep all husbandry caging, animal arrival inventory, and restock any needed items in all animal rooms/procedure rooms.
Assist with animal receiving and housing of new arrivals.
Perform small animal euthanasia.
Daily communication with the Husbandry team, Management, Veterinary Care Staff, and Principal Investigators regarding animal health and progress.
Cross Training to both large/small animal husbandry and related tasks required.
Additional tasks may be assigned based on performance and workload.
This position offers the ability for continued education via webinars, online training, and in person training from professionals.
Weekend and holiday work required.

Job Requirements:

Education:

· High school diploma or GED Required

· College degree in a related field (animal science, biology, etc.) desirable

Experience: 1+ years of laboratory animal experience or related field desirable

Supervisory Responsibilities: None

Physical Demands/Work Environment: This position includes standing, walking, bending, lifting, cleaning and washing; ability to lift 50 pounds as well as team lift 200 pounds and perform repetitive movements.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: From $21.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40 per week
