Overview
Maine Animal Health Alliance (MAHA) is looking for a Veterinary Assistant for at least 3 days a week with potential for more, if desired.

MAHA is a rapidly growing non-profit clinic that currently provides high quality, high volume spay/neuter (HQHVSN) for both owned and shelter/rescue animals in Maine. We strive to support the human-animal bond and keep pets with their people despite financial restrictions.

Additionally, MAHA offers training opportunities for veterinary professionals to learn HQHVSN techniques, will be expanding to offer Wellness services, and will be providing spay/neuter in northern Maine via a mobile clinic.

Job responsibilities include drug prep, induction, intubation, surgical prep, monitoring, and recovery while working closely with our vets and our other techs in a HQHVSN surgery model at our Augusta location.

Responsibilities

Assist veterinarians during examinations and procedures, ensuring the safety and comfort of animals.
Perform animal handling and restraint techniques to facilitate examinations and treatments.
Administer medications as directed by the veterinarian or veterinary technician.
Maintain cleanliness and organization of the clinic, including kennels and treatment areas.
Provide basic pet care services, including feeding, bathing, and exercising animals.
Monitor animal behavior and vital signs, reporting any changes to the veterinary team.
Assist with laboratory tasks such as sample collection and preparation for analysis.
Utilize veterinary terminology accurately in communication with staff and clients.
Support front desk operations as needed, including scheduling appointments and managing client inquiries.
Engage in continuous learning about animal physiology, anatomy, and veterinary practices.

Qualifications

Previous experience in a veterinary clinic or animal care facility is preferred.
Knowledge of animal husbandry practices and pet care techniques.
Familiarity with veterinary terminology and procedures is highly desirable.
Experience in animal restraint, medication administration, and basic laboratory tasks is beneficial.
Strong communication skills to interact effectively with clients and team members.
Ability to work well under pressure while maintaining attention to detail.
Experience with equine care is a plus but not required.

Pay: $20.00 - $22.00 per hour

Expected hours: 30 – 40 per week
