Position Title: Farm & Animal Coordinator

Location: Plainfield, NH

Description: The Farm and Animal Coordinator (FAC) oversees the daily operations of the program’s farm and animal areas, ensuring the highest standards of animal care, farm maintenance, and safety. The FAC plays an integral role in the therapeutic mission of the program by incorporating farm-based and animal-assisted activities into residents’ daily therapeutic programming. In collaboration with clinical and residential teams, the FAC facilitates meaningful, hands-on experiences that support exposure goals, emotional regulation, life skill development, and a sense of purpose through purposeful work. The FAC is also responsible for managing farm operations, including budgeting, procurement of supplies and equipment, scheduling, and compliance with animal welfare regulations. In addition, this role provides training and supervision to staff and residents participating in farm activities, modeling safe, compassionate, and responsible engagement with animals and the natural environment.

Essential duties and responsibilities include the following, although not limited to, as other duties may be assigned:

Animal & Farm Management

Oversee daily animal care, including feeding, grooming, health checks, and habitat maintenance.
Maintain accurate records of animal health, vaccinations, and veterinary care.
Plan and manage seasonal farm operations, including planting, harvesting, and general upkeep.
Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations related to animal care and agricultural operations.
Coordinate with veterinarians, suppliers, and maintenance personnel as needed.

Therapeutic & Program Integration

Collaborate with clinical and residential teams to integrate farm and animal-related activities into therapeutic programming.
Support resident participation in farm tasks that align with individual treatment goals and the programs overall mission and values.
Foster emotional regulation, self-confidence, and responsibility through structured, hands-on learning experiences.
Adapt activities to meet individual therapeutic needs, ensuring accessibility and safety for all residents.
Assist in the facilitation of activity therapy modules weekly.

Training, Supervision & Collaboration

Train and supervise staff in safe and effective methods of animal handling and farm work.
Provide guidance and mentorship to residents, modeling positive work habits and healthy engagement with the environment.
Collaborate with program leadership to ensure farm activities are integrated into the daily and weekly program schedule.

Safety & Risk Management

Create standard operating procedures that maintain high standards of safety for residents, staff, and animals.
Regularly assess the farm environment for safety hazards and implement corrective measures.
Develop and enforce farm safety policies and procedures.

Program Administration & Operations

Manage farm budgets, inventory, and procurement of supplies and equipment.
Participate in staff meetings, training, and ongoing professional development as assigned.
Professionally represent and embrace and embody the mission, vision, guiding principles, clinical vision, and goals of Mountain Valley Treatment Center.
Report any unusual incidents, behaviors, or safety concerns to supervisor in an effective and timely manner.

Education, Experience, and Qualifications:

Required:

Experience in animal husbandry, farm management, agriculture, or a related field.
Strong understanding of safe animal handling practices and farm operations.
Ability to work collaboratively within a therapeutic or team-based environment.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills; ability to engage effectively with adolescents and young adults.
Strong group facilitation skills.
Physical ability to perform farm-related labor and work in variable outdoor conditions.
Valid driver’s license and ability to pass required background checks.

Preferred:

Bachelor’s degree in agriculture, animal science, psychology, occupational therapy, therapeutic recreation, or a related field.
Experience working in a therapeutic, residential, or educational setting.
Familiarity with CBT principles, exposure-based interventions, or occupational therapy approaches.
Supervisory or program management experience.

Supervisory Responsibilities: May indirectly supervise employees within the scope of the job’s essential duties, applicable projects, or assignments as determined by the Residential Director. Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with Mountain Valley Treatment Center’s policies and applicable laws.
