The opportunity
You will assist with presentation standards of the Penguin Encounter exhibit and undertake animal training, husbandry and exhibit maintenance tasks for the Antarctic penguins to maintain excellent health.

Your day to day

Assist with presentation standards of Penguin Encounter exhibit including snow blows, ice cleaning and removal.
Develop an understanding of animal training and conditioning techniques and behavioral enrichment to maintain appropriate behavioral management of penguins.
Perform relevant education talks and interactive tours to provide an educational experience to guests and students.

What you’ll bring

Previous experience with preventive health, behavioral management, enrichment and husbandry of birds is desirable.
Bachelor of Science degree or Certificate III in Wildlife and Exhibited Animal Care is essential.
Able to work in cool environments ranging from -1.0C to +10.0C
A level of fitness required to complete all tasks in the assigned area.
Available to work on any day including weekends.

Candidates who progress through the first and second round interviews will be required to complete both (a) a Fitness for Work Assessment and (b) a Psychometric Assessment (DISC). These assessments are conducted at VRTP’s expense and form part of the overall recruitment process.
