***Position will function as Aquaculture Assistant***
This is an hourly, temporary 11-month position. It is classified as temporary/part-time and does not include state benefits. Schedule will be set upon hire. Up to 40 hours per week. Weekend work will be a large component of this position. Occasional evening and holiday work may also be required.
Description of Work:
The Aquaculture technician will be responsible for assisting Larval Culture Aquarists in a variety of tasks related to aquaculture at the aquarium including the care, conditioning and maintenance of broodstock species, spawning and egg collection as well as the care and maintenance of all aquaculture species and systems during the hatchery, nursery and grow-out phases of development. This position assists with coverage in the aquarium’s jelly gallery, and may partake in other animal husbandry duties as assigned.
Job Requirements:
- This position will require working on weekends.
- This position will require lifting heavy items (approximately 50 pounds), climbing ladders, walking, and standing for extended periods of time, bending, kneeling, squatting, reaching, and crawling, and work at heights indoors.
- Candidates must possess a valid driver’s license or have the ability to obtain within 60 days of employment.
- This position will require work in hot, humid, cold, and wet indoor and outdoor conditions.
- This position will require lifting heavy items (approximately 50 pounds), climbing ladders, walking and standing for extended periods of time, bending, kneeling, squatting, reaching and crawling, and work at heights indoors.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Experience with aquatic animal husbandry, including aquatic life support systems or associated water chemistry preferred.
- Experience with public speaking or interacting with the public is preferred.
Minimum Education and Experience:
High school or General Education Development (GED) diploma and one year of experience as related to the knowledge, skills and abilities in the area of assignment; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
