Job Summary
The Barn Manager is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the barn and ensuring the well-being of all animals. This role requires a strong understanding of animal husbandry and handling, as well as mechanical knowledge to maintain equipment and facilities. The Barn Manager will work closely with staff and volunteers to create a safe, efficient, and nurturing environment for both animals and personnel.
Responsibilities
- Supervise daily care and feeding of animals, ensuring proper nutrition and health monitoring.
- Manage animal handling procedures, ensuring safety protocols are followed at all times.
- Oversee maintenance of barn facilities, including cleaning, repairs, and organization of supplies.
- Operate farm equipment such as forklifts and hand tools for various tasks including feeding, cleaning, and maintenance.
- Implement irrigation systems to maintain pasture health and manage water resources effectively.
- Maintain accurate records related to animal health, feed inventory, and maintenance schedules using basic math skills.
- Train staff and volunteers on proper animal care techniques and safety measures.
- Coordinate with veterinarians for routine check-ups or emergencies as needed.
Skills
- Strong knowledge of animal husbandry practices and animal handling techniques.
- Experience in farm operations with a focus on equine care preferred.
- Mechanical knowledge for maintaining equipment used in barn operations.
- Proficiency in operating forklifts and hand tools safely and effectively.
