Rushing Waters raises premium quality Rainbow Trout on an 80-acre farm in Palmyra, WI. In addition to raising premium quality trout, Rushing Waters has an FDA/HACCP certified production facility that is run by a passionate team. Our pledge for quality has inspired a delicious line of value-added seafood products including but not limited to fresh trout, hot smoked fish, seafood spread and salmon burgers.
As the Hatchery Manager for Rushing Waters, you will play an integral role in our efforts to provide high-quality seafood to our customers. In this position, you will oversee all aspects of an aquaculture hatchery including the management of personnel, fish, infrastructure and equipment.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Oversee the daily operations of the fish hatchery
- Recruit, train, and supervise hatchery staff
- Maintain current knowledge of industry trends and information regarding hatchery equipment and operations
- Implement and enforce safety and environmental regulations
- Maintain records and prepare reports on hatchery operation, ensure inventories, equipment, and capital improvements are properly maintained, coordinate hatchery operation with other department functions, provide input on new hatchery designs
- Plan and oversee the distribution of fish stock
- Track fish life cycles to determine the proper time for harvest
- Monitor the health of the fish and treat diseases
- Develop feeding rations and schedules needed for specified growth rates
- Prepare reports on hatchery operations and productivity
- Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations
- Develop and implement strategies to improve hatchery operations
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in fish science, aquaculture, hatchery management or hatchery maintenance preferred
- Proven work experience in a fish hatchery or similar role
- Familiarity with aquatic diseases and their prevention
- Ability to manage and supervise a team
- Knowledge of safety regulations and procedures
- Experience in fish hatchery operations, including hatching, and rearing fish, to ensure smooth and efficient operations.
- Strong leadership and management skills to oversee staff, plan work schedules, assign tasks, and ensure the hatchery operations are conducted efficiently and effectively.
- Communication skills to effectively relay information and instructions to the hatchery staff, report to higher-ups and interact with other industry professionals.
- Ability to work in physically demanding conditions, often outdoors and in varying weather conditions, to ensure the welfare of the fish.
- Knowledge of environmental regulations and safety standards to ensure the hatchery complies with all relevant laws and guidelines.
- Experience in record keeping and data analysis to maintain records of fish hatching and growth, evaluate productivity, and make necessary adjustments.
