JOB DESCRIPTION—DeWeerdt Poultry Farm
Position Title: Farm Facilities Maintenance Technician
Reports to: Farm Maintenance Manager
Direct Team Accountability:Farm Facilities Maintenance Technicians
Summary: This full-time position specializes in overall farm facilities maintenance.Individual in this position will provide inspection, repairs, and maintenance for equipment as needed.Position will integrate close partnership with Farm Maintenance Manager and Farm Maintenance Technician team to maintain farm equipment and facilities in best possible operating condition for overall bird health and egg production.
Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities
- Complete barn maintenance as needed that directly impacts bird health and wellbeing as directed by Farm Owner, Director of Operations, and Farm Facilities Manager. Implement maintenance to multiple poultry houses, farm facilities, and solar system as needed.
- Inspect, repair, and/or replace equipment to help optimize efficiency. Responsible areas of maintenance may include the following: bearings, chains, belts, light bulbs, electric motors, gearboxes, manure belts, sprockets, nest box cables, air inlet machines, and other equipment needed to maintain a safe and healthy environment for birds. Communicate with farm facilities maintenance team regularly to order and keep adequate inventory of parts on hand.
- Implement a plan for scheduled preventative maintenance on equipment.
- Work with egg processing plant maintenance team to maintain cooler units as needed.
- Monitor and maintain litter conveying system to ensure in consistent working order, including repairs as needed, preventative maintenance, and ordering all necessary parts and supplies for operation.
- Coordinate with farm management/maintenance teams to run manure daily as needed.
- Provide assistance to cropping division seasonally as determined by Crop Production Specialist and management team.
- Assist with repairs and maintenance to Railside Farm Trucking equipment as needed.
- Maintain biosecurity practices to ensure bird safety.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- A team player with a desire to work closely with others to accomplish a variety of farm-related tasks in a timely manner
- Effective written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to prioritize tasks as it pertains to keeping farm equipment in consistent operation
- Thorough knowledge of electricity and how to troubleshoot problems with electrical equipment.(Includes 208/480V 3 phase electricity, 110/220V single phase electricity, DC Voltage and circuit board troubleshooting)
- Self-driven with excellent time management skills
- Hands-on work ethic that desires to learn, evaluate processes, and provide assistance to others
- Strong mechanical skills to fix broken parts on a variety of equipment types
- Exhibits personal integrity, maintaining confidentiality in regard to organizational operations
Education/Training/Experience
- Background and training in electrical field preferred; knowledge and troubleshooting capability for motors and circuit boards
- Relevant experience working with various types of mechanical equipment
