Jorgensen Land & Cattle, a 4th generation family-owned diversified agriculture operation from crop production, cattle breeding to a hunting lodge, is looking to add an On-Farm Agronomist to their team in Ideal, SD. As an On-Farm Agronomist, you will oversee day-to-day agronomy operations by conducting field scouting, writing pest management recommendations, collecting soil samples, and be hands-on with assisting with precision ag tools-including GPS, rate controllers, and mapping software. This is a practical, field-oriented position where your knowledge of herbicide use, soil health, and crop scouting will directly support efficient, on-farm decision-making. You’ll also jump in to assist with broader farm or tasks as needed.

In this role, you will:

Oversee field scouting and writing recommendations for pest management
Complete soil sampling
Work closely with precision ag components

Qualifications & Experience:

Education or experience in Agronomy, Crop Science, Soil Science, Plant Health, or Crop Production strongly preferred
CCA or PCA is a benefit
Experience operating tractors, seeding/spraying equipment, and trucks
Familiarity and hands-on experience with sprayers, tenders, and associated equipment
Working knowledge of precision ag technology including GPS, rate controllers, and mapping software
Working knowledge in herbicide selection, mixing, handling, and application of best practices
Ability to scout crops, identify weed, pest, and disease pressures, and communicate findings effectively
Understanding of agronomic principles including soil health, fertility, and crop rotation
Must demonstrate a willingness to learn, adapt, and solve problems
