PetSmart Veterinary Services is a private practice located inside the PetSmart retail store in Wausau, WI. We are a full-service veterinary hospital offering medical, surgical, and preventative care services. We pride ourselves on offering quality medical care to our patients.
Skills for this position include: venipuncture, IV catheter placement, anesthesia monitoring, dental prophylaxis, radiology set-up, taking radiographs, processing laboratory samples, excellent client communication, and experience with medical record keeping. Responsibilities:
-Set IV catheters.
-Run and monitor anesthesia.
- Assist veterinarians in providing medical care to animals
- Perform various laboratory tests, such as blood work and urinalysis
- Administer medications and vaccines to animals as directed by veterinarians
- Prepare animals for surgery and assist during surgical procedures
- Monitor and record vital signs of animals during procedures and treatments
- Provide post-operative care and monitor recovery of animals
- Educate pet owners on proper animal care and treatment plans
- Maintain accurate medical records for all animals under care
-Clean and sanitize animal enclosures, exam rooms, and equipment
- Reception duties such as answering phone call and scheduling appointments
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or equivalent: required.
-Associate's degree in Veterinary Technician/Technology: required.
- Certified Veterinary Technician (CVT) or Licensed Veterinary Technician (LVT): not required but is a plus.
- Previous experience working as a veterinary technician is highly desired
- Strong knowledge of animal physiology, husbandry, and handling techniques
- Proficient in performing veterinary critical care procedures
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
- Ability to work well in a team environment and collaborate with veterinarians and other staff members
Skills:
- Dog handling: Ability to safely handle dogs of various sizes and temperaments during exams, treatments, and procedures.
- Veterinary critical care: Proficiency in providing emergency medical care to animals in critical condition.
- Animal handling: Ability to safely handle a variety of animals, including dogs, cats, rabbits, birds, reptiles, etc.
- Animal physiology: Understanding of the biological processes and functions of animals' bodies.
- Kennel: Knowledge of kennel management practices.
- Animal restraint: Skill in safely restraining animals during exams, treatments, and procedures.
-Animal care: Ability to provide compassionate care for animals, including monitoring their well-being and addressing their needs.
