DuPage County Animal Services (DCAS) is an immediate open admission shelter caring for more than 2,300 animals of varying species annually. This list of duties and responsibilities is illustrative only, and is not a comprehensive listing of all the duties and responsibilities performed by position in this class.Responsibilities include: Assigns, delegates, supervises, and inspects the work of subordinate staff engaged in the work of animal client services (e.g., animal intake and outcome, rabies compliance, animal care resources, all public facing animal related concerns received by phone, email or in-person).Trains new employees on job skills, operations, and proceduresReviews reports, transaction records, and other documents to ensure appropriate follow up actions are taken to resolve animal outcomes and shorten length of stay when possibleMonitors the work performance of staff, prepares performance evaluations, and initiates corrective action as requiredPromotes positive morale, creativity, and teamwork among staffMaintains strong relationship with other team supervisors to streamline operations, improve customer service, and keep animal lengths of stay as short as possibleSpends time with and remains updated on animals in the facility; ensures front office and other key staff remain informed of animal attributes and current status to make the best possible match/recommendation/placementStays informed of trends and best practices impacting animal welfare, animal control, animal sheltering, adoption, etc. and makes recommendations for policies and procedures accordinglyAnswers complex inquiries by providing information that requires interpretation and familiarity with divisional policy procedure and operationsRecords and maintains written logs (e.g., animal and person memos related to intake or outcome for animals)Prepares various operational, productivity and work reports for use by managementMakes recommendations on tools, software, and procedures to increase operational efficiency and effectivenessAssists public in adopting, surrendering, or reclaiming animalsCoordinates and oversees the annual rabies tag distribution process for veterinary partners and direct to the public
