Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Animal Caretaker to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a strong passion for animal welfare and will be responsible for providing high-quality care to a variety of animals. This role involves ensuring the health and well-being of the animals in our facility, maintaining cleanliness, and assisting with medical procedures as needed.
Responsibilities
- Provide daily care for animals, including feeding, grooming, and exercising.
- Monitor animal health and behavior, reporting any concerns to veterinary staff.
- Administer medications and treatments as directed by veterinarians.
- Maintain clean and safe living environments for all animals.
- Assist with animal restraint during examinations or procedures.
- Support veterinary technicians with critical care tasks when necessary.
- Handle various species with knowledge of animal physiology and anatomy.
- Maintain accurate records of animal care activities and medical histories.
- Engage with pet owners at the front desk, providing information and support as needed.
Skills
- Kennel experience is preferred to ensure familiarity with animal care protocols.
- Strong understanding of animal husbandry practices.
- Veterinary technician experience is a plus, especially in critical care settings.
- Proficiency in animal handling techniques, including dog handling and restraint methods.
- Knowledge of veterinary terminology to communicate effectively with staff and clients.
- Experience in medication administration and aseptic techniques for medical procedures.
- Familiarity with laboratory practices related to animal health is beneficial.
- Equine experience is an advantage for those working with horses or large animals.
- Previous roles as a veterinary assistant or in a veterinary clinic are highly regarded.

QUALIFICATIONS:
- Education: High school diploma, General Education Degree (G.E.D.), preferred.
- Experience: No previous experience required. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be accepted as a satisfactory substitute for the specific education and experience listed above.
- Certification/Licensure: None, unless required by local government.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities to achieve goals.
- Computer skills (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite), commensurate with essential functions, including the ability to learn a validated system.
- Ability to ensure that a safe working environment is maintained by observing all safety procedures and working methods by making proper use of protective clothing and equipment, and by reading, understanding, and following all safety documents issued or notified of.
- Ability to ensure the integrity of the studies and fulfill the regulatory agencies requirements by performing the activities according to the Good Laboratory Practices (GLP), Standard Operating Procedures (SOP), Business Operating Procedures (BOP) and the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) rules.
- Ability to work extended hours beyond normal work schedule includes evenings, weekends, extended shifts, and/or extra shifts, sometimes on short notice.
- Ability to work under specific time constraints.
