Head Veterinary Technician — High Street Animal Hospital (Peterborough, ON)
Full-Time | Monday to Friday | 40 hours/week | $25–$32/hr (commensurate with experience)
High Street Animal Hospital is a proudly locally owned and operated small animal clinic serving the Peterborough community. We are not corporate-owned — our team is close-knit, collaborative, and genuinely cares for each other and our patients. We are looking for an experienced, confident Head Veterinary Technician to lead our team and help us continue to provide exceptional patient care.
About the Role
This is a full-time leadership position working Monday through Friday (no weekends). The ideal candidate will be highly skilled, organized, and motivated, with strong technical ability and excellent communication. You’ll work directly alongside the veterinarian and support staff in all areas of patient care, surgery, and hospital operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform venipuncture and catheter placements in dogs and cats confidently.
- Operate and maintain in-house laboratory equipment, perform cytologies, and prepare smears.
- Conduct and monitor anesthesia safely and competently.
- Take high-quality radiographs, including dental radiographs, with proper patient positioning.
- Maintain controlled drug and surgery logs in compliance with regulations.
- Manage inventory: order supplies, monitor stock levels, and maintain organization.
- Supervise and support other team members; lead by example with professionalism and teamwork.
- Enter records and invoices accurately using AVImark practice management software.
- Create staff schedules
Qualifications
- Veterinary Technician diploma (registered or non-registered applicants welcome).
- Minimum 2–3 years of hands-on experience in small animal practice preferred.
- Strong technical and leadership skills — able to take initiative and work independently.
- Comfortable mentoring junior staff and maintaining a positive team culture.
- Dental radiography experience considered a strong asset.
