Intern - Liposome Formulation Optimization and Evaluation

Internship Summary:
Zoetis is a leader in the field of animal health, biotechnology, and vaccine development. We are dedicated to improving the health and well-being of animals through innovative research and development of veterinary products. The interdisciplinary vaccine team within Global Biologics group is seeking a motivated summer intern to help optimize liposome formulations and evaluate their delivery performance. The intern will gain hands-on experience with in-vitro cell assays and in-vivo mouse and target animal models, practical skills in pharmaceutical formulation and delivery research, exposure to advanced cell biology and molecular techniques, and the opportunity to contribute to impactful, real-world research - all under the mentorship of experienced scientists.
Internship Job Duties:
- Optimize liposome formulations tailored for effective delivery of therapeutic agents.
- Assist with biophysical characterization of optimized formulations.
- Conduct in-vitro evaluation using various cell-based assays to assess delivery efficiency and cellular responses.
- Perform in-vivo studies in mouse or target animal models to evaluate biodistribution, efficacy, and safety of liposome formulations.
- Utilize molecular biology techniques such as PCR and RT-qPCR to analyze gene expression.
- Support biochemical and cell biology experiments including western blotting and cell line manipulation.
- Collaborate with team members to design experiments, analyze data, and prepare reports.
Internship Qualifications:
- Currently pursuing a Ph.D. or D.V.M. in Pharmaceutics, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, or a related field.
- Strong foundation in chemistry, biochemistry, and eukaryotic cell biology.
- Experience with tissue culture and manipulation of cell lines.
- Background in liposome formulation and manufacturing processes.
- Familiarity with in-vitro assay development and execution.
- Experience with PCR/RT-qPCR, gene expression analysis, and western blotting is a plus.
- Excellent self-motivation and the ability to work independently as well as in a collaborative team environment.

If the selected candidate is a student pursuing an Undergraduate-level degree: $22.00 per hour
If the selected candidate is a student pursing a Graduate-level degree: $32.50 per hour
If the selected candidate is a student pursuing a Doctorate-level degree: $36.00 per hour
