About the role
The Horse and Livestock Animal Attendant is responsible for the specialised day to day care of horses at RSPCA Victoria, contributing to the achievement of the best possible welfare outcome for every horse in our care.
Key responsibilities
Reporting to the Horse and Livestock & Inspectorate Call Centre Supervisor this role will:

Strong background in equine health, husbandry, and wellness, with at least 5 years’ experience in a similar horse care role or stables within the equestrian, racing, or related industries.

Sound knowledge of horse anatomy, behaviour, safe handling, and basic disease recognition (e.g., colic, laminitis).

Ability to work efficiently and compassionately in a fast-paced, challenging environment caring for horses.

Proven teamwork and communication skills with colleagues and customers in a collaborative setting.

Flexibility to work on a rotating roster, including weekends and public holidays.

Practical horse care skills including picking up feet, administering wormers, identifying medications, dressing wounds, leading/haltering, loading into a crush, interpreting vet notes, documenting observations, and creating feeding plans for ill or underweight horses.

A current Certificate II in Animal Care (or equivalent) is highly regarded.
