SUMMARY
The Animal Services Technician/ Receptionist position is a dual role. As Animal Services Technician, this individual is responsible, for caring for ORCATs at the Grayvik Animal Center and throughout the Ocean Reef Community. As a Receptionist, this individual is responsible for greeting visitors and guests, answering telephone calls, and facilitating accurate communications between clients, veterinarian, technicians, and managers. In addition, the Receptionist performs various administrative duties, including, but not limited to maintaining patient records and assisting in managing ORCAT/Grayvik social media accounts. These duties include Administrative as well as hands-on tasks.
SPECIFIC DUTIES (INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO)
Animal Services Technician Duties:
- Will set traps as directed.
- Ensures that daily feeding routes are accomplished.
- Keeps feeding station bowls organized and clean.
- Provides husbandry care for each animal in the center.
- Monitors the health of all animals under their care.
- Provides food and water daily.
- Assists the veterinarian, technician and co-workers as needed.
- Keeps feeding stations clean and organized.
- May keep records of feedings.
Receptionist Duties:
- Performs receptionist duties, including answering telephone calls promptly and courteously, returning messages, and greeting clients and visitors. Keeps detailed and accurate records of visitor requests and of calls received.
- Schedules patient appointments, sends patient reminders, and maintains ongoing communication.
- Keeps appointments on schedule by being familiar with time required for different procedures/examinations and schedule as needed.
- Ensures a smooth client and patient flow from waiting room to exam room to payment processing.
- Prepares and presents price quotes when requested by clients.
- Compiles patient medical information.
- Performs various data entry tasks, including documenting and maintaining patient records within databases.
- Ensures all website/social media information is current, including the list of veterinary services offered and the list of adoptable Orcats. Works with the ORCA Director of Communications to ensure all website information is current. Develops and writes content for social media accounts, articles, and flyers.
- Assists with tracking and reporting financial data.
- Assists with the planning and coordination of community events.
- May be assigned additional duties as deemed necessary.
- Assists with disinfecting and sanitizing all areas.

- Ability to bend, stoop or kneel.
- Ability to sit or stand for up to three (3) hours without a break.
- Ability to lift objects up to 40lbs without assistance.
- Ability to see, read, hear, to speak calmly and clearly in the face of various types of pressure, not allowing emotions to overwhelm attitude and/or performance.
KNOWLEDGE
- Practical knowledge of standard veterinary procedures, medications, medication dispensing restrictions, recognition of an emergency and maintaining of veterinary records. Basic understanding of vaccine protocols, preventative care, and dietary recommendations.
- Basic knowledge of animal health and anatomy.
- Knowledge of/or ability to learn and understand veterinary terminology and ORCAT Trap, Neuter, Release (TNR) program procedures.
- Acknowledges may be exposed to hazards such as medical, chemical, biological waste, loud noises, animal bites, or scratches.
- Knowledge of policies and procedures outlined in ORCA employee manual, as well as implied within reasonable expectation.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Education
High school diploma or equivalent is required. An Associate’s Degree from an accredited College or
University is preferred.
Experience
One (1) year experience preferred.
