Ocean Life Education 'Brings the Sea to You' with fun marine education programs designed to inspire students of all ages to appreciate and take responsibility for the marine ecosystem.
If you are passionate about environmental issues, and have experience working with children (or are a natural with young ones) we'd love to hear from you.
Our mobile marine educators arrive with fascinating live marine animals, artefacts, games and information. We visit children all over South East Queensland - from early education, primary and secondary schools to school holiday programs, libraries and events - wherever our education vans will take us. We are proud to be educating tomorrow's leaders and our next generation of environmental custodians.
Duties & Responsibilities
Education
- Deliver various marine education programs
- Engage children from ages 1-12 in fun, interactive experiences
- Actively supporting environmental awareness and protection
- Confidently handle live marine animals during presentations
Aquarist Duties
- Daily husbandry of marine animals (feeding, monitoring, enrichment)
- Perform routine tank maintenance, including water quality testing & cleaning
- Assist with animal health monitoring and record keeping
- Prepare and transport animals safely for programs
- Ensure biosecurity and welfare standards are met
Essential
- Must have capacity to engage 1 - 4 yr old children
- Enthusiastic, passionate and willing to teach environmental issues.
- Entertaining, vibrant personality
- Current Blue Card
- Open Drivers License
- Reliability, confidence and excellent communication skills.
Employment Conditions
- Casual position with a regular expectation of around 20 hours per week, with additional hours available during busy periods
- Paid under the Miscellaneous Award (MA000104) – casual rates (incl. loading)
- Training provided
This position is based in the Brisbane suburb of Tingalpa.
