Overview
As an Associate Veterinarian at Rush Veterinary Center, you’ll play a vital role in delivering comprehensive, high-quality veterinary care across a variety of species, primarily companion animals (dogs and cats). You’ll practice in a positive, energetic, and growth-focused environment that values teamwork, innovation, and genuine compassion.
This role is ideal for a veterinarian who is:
- Proficient in surgery
- Comfortable in a fast-paced clinical setting
- Dedicated to improving the lives of animals every single day
- Does not simply want to "punch a clock" and has intrinsic motivation to do what needs to be done
- Values teamwork and efficient operations
With a 4-day work week, weekends off, and a scaling 5-year compensation plan, this position offers professional fulfillment and personal balance. We work off of Work/Life harmony. While somedays you may not punch at clock at 5pm to go home but you will have the structure to enjoy your life!
What You’ll Do
- Conduct thorough physical exams and diagnose medical conditions across companion animals (and occasional equine cases).
- Perform a wide range of veterinary procedures with precision — including catheterization, surgical prep, aseptic technique, and clinical restraint.
- Confidently and competently perform surgical procedures (soft-tissue required; orthopedic experience is a plus).
- Administer treatments, medications, vaccinations, and supportive therapies while maintaining the highest standards of safety and care.
- Execute and interpret laboratory tests, evaluate results, and apply veterinary terminology accurately in clinical decision-making.
- Handle animals safely and humanely, demonstrating advanced skills in animal behavior, restraint, and husbandry.
- Provide client education on preventive care, nutrition, grooming, wellness strategies, and long-term health planning.
- Support overall clinic operations with professionalism, integrity, and a team-first mindset.
- Collaborate with Dr. Milot and other associates in case planning, quality-of-care improvements, and the ongoing evolution of an ethics-driven practice.
What You Won’t Do
- Push unnecessary diagnostics or treatments
- Sell services animals don’t need
- Work weekends
- Compromise your medical judgment for production quotas
If you’ve experienced corporate vet med… you get why this matters.
Qualifications
- DVM/VMD with an active Pennsylvania license (or ability to obtain one).
- Proven experience in veterinary critical care or emergency procedures is highly valued.
- Strong surgical proficiency and comfort managing surgical caseloads.
- Solid foundation in animal restraint, anatomy, physiology, lab procedures, and aseptic technique.
- Experience in animal husbandry, pet care routines, and grooming support when needed.
- Ability to confidently handle dogs; equine handling experience is a plus but not required.
- Excellent communication skills for client education and collaborative teamwork.
- Prior laboratory experience is a plus and supports diagnostic workflows.
- A genuine passion for animal wellness, ethical practice, and compassionate care.
