Job Description: Our client is seeking a skilled and motivated Equine Veterinarian to join a professional racehorse-focused team at a premier training facility in Victoria. The role provides daily exposure to elite equine athletes in a setting designed for world-class performance and care. Working alongside experienced professionals, you will play an integral role in supporting the wellbeing and success of high-level racehorses through advanced diagnostics and preventative care.
This position offers a balance between clinical independence and team collaboration, where you will work closely with trainers, veterinary nurses, and assistants to optimise equine health and performance. The team operates within a modern, fully equipped environment supported by state-of-the-art facilities, offering the chance to refine your expertise in equine sports medicine, lameness assessment, and performance management.
In this position, your responsibilities will include:
- Providing high-quality veterinary care for performance horses at various training stages
- Carrying out lameness evaluations, pre-race assessments, and preventive medicine programs
- Performing diagnostic imaging, ultrasound, and minor surgical procedures as required
- Collaborating with trainers and support staff to develop tailored treatment plans
- Maintaining accurate clinical records and ensuring best-practice care standards
- Contributing to the ongoing health, performance, and welfare of elite equine patients
- Participating in shared weekend coverage (approximately 1 in 4 rotation)
Qualifications Needed:
- Bachelor of Veterinary Science or equivalent qualification recognised in Australia
- Eligibility for registration with the Veterinary Practitioners Registration Board of Victoria
- At least one year of equine practice experience (new graduates with strong interest considered)
- Proficiency or strong interest in equine sports medicine and racehorse care
- Excellent clinical and communication skills with a proactive, organised approach
- Ability to work effectively within a team of veterinary professionals and support staff
- Commitment to maintaining professional integrity and high medical standards
